Greg Beckner

GREENVILLE JOURNAL & UBJ PHOTOGRAPHER

“If you see me with a camera and I am taking photographs, I am not a terrorist! I am a photojournalist.”

Greg’s passion for visual storytelling, or what he specifies as “photojournalism that inspires others to action,” has displayed weekly for the past four years in the Greenville Journal and the Upstate Business Journal.

An outdoorsman who chooses to spend his free time “on a trout stream in a mountain wilderness area, on Lake Hartwell sailing, or hiking to a waterfall,” Greg has past experience as a fisheries biologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Marine Fisheries Service; has been a adjunct faculty member and Photography Lab Manager at the Florida Institute of Technology; was a photojournalist for the Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post; and is a past Photo Editor for the Anderson Independent Mail.

He has won various state awards for photojournalism, including leading his staff as Photo Editor at the Independent Mail to win the South Carolina Press Association’s Photo Staff of the Year award multiple times. He has also won the Scripps President Award for leadership.
