About This Project

Ariel Gilreath

“Journalism is about doggedly pursuing the truth, even when it’s difficult to face. I’m fortunate to have found my passion early on in life.”

Ariel joined Community Journals in July of 2018 as an education reporter after covering education for the Index-Journal in Greenwood since 2015. There, she dug deep into education topics and dabbled in longform journalism. In 2016, she won first in education beat reporting from the South Carolina Press Association.

Ariel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in print journalism from Winthrop University in 2014, where she was named Outstanding Senior of the Year. She minored in French, but only gets to practice it with her two dogs.

When she’s not working, Ariel is likely spending time in nature, writing a blend of prose and poetry, or drawing. Sometimes doing all three, and sometimes she just re-watches the same three TV shows over and over again.
