About This Project

Ariel Turner

“An insatiable curiosity is what got me into journalism, but getting to listen to and retell people’s stories is what has kept me here.”

Ariel is an award-winning journalist from Greenville with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism and organizational communication from Bob Jones University. As a college senior, she interned with the Greenville Journal in 2005, and was hired as a staff writer to help launch the former Anderson and Spartanburg journals. In July of 2007 she moved with her husband, T.J., and their first of four children to the outskirts of Philadelphia to be close to extended family. There, she regularly contributed to Main Line Parent Magazine and Philadelphia Family Magazine, and performed as a violinist with a folk-rock band she founded, all the while keeping a close eye on her hometown’s progress.

After nine years in the frozen North, it was time to move back to the sunshine and significantly lower cost of living. Ariel rejoined Community Journals in August 2016 as a contributing writer and in December was hired as a staff writer to cover restaurants, the arts, and everything in between.

If she ever had any free time apart from raising four daughters, Ariel would probably either reacquaint herself with her violin, enjoy a bourbon and soda on a roof top bar with her husband, vacation in North Scottsdale, Ariz., snowboard in Beaver Creek, Colo., or cook up a storm with fresh finds from the weekend farmer’s market.
